Under The Influence
The Holy Spirit came onto each one
of them
As flickering tongues of fire sitting on their heads
Men heard in their own personal language
The wonderful works that God had done
Some of the people were amazed, others mocked
Galileans! uneducated people! these men are drunk
They are under the influence!
Under His influence
Speaking under the power of the Holy Ghost
Inspired to preach - proclaiming the power of His grace
God using your mouth to convince the gainsayers
Uttering secrets hid from the foundation of the world
Talking with a wisdom beyond our own reasoning
Speaking the Word of God with conviction and boldness
Under His Influence
Exposing the thoughts and the intentions of the heart
Uncovering the words spoken in closets and in the ear
Rebuking the madness of a wayward prophet
Discerning the secrets uttered in darkness
Revealing the truth of deceitful lying lips
Reproving the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment
Under His influence
Performing His will on earth as it is in Heaven
Touching the lives of those who are sick and dieing
Kindling a fire of faith in a seemingly hopeless situation
Encouraging the heart weary from stress and battling
Working miracles then standing back awestruck
God working in you to will and to do of His good pleasure
Under His Influence
Exhorting others with timely words of prophecy
Proclaiming from the housetop the secrets of eternal life
Explaining with simplicity mind bending doctrine
Infecting those with the joy of His divine purpose
Walking in His steps, unhindered by physical limitations
Setting hearts aflame with the passion of His presence
Under His influence

And yet it
is not I but Christ - the Anointing - the Holy Spirit - God living in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the
Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
Isa 50:4 The Lord GOD hath given me
the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season
to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning,
he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.
1Co 12:8 For to one is given by the
Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the
same Spirit; to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another
discerning of spirits; to another divers
kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
Joh 7:15 And the Jews marvelled, saying,
How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
Luk 24:32 And they said one to another,
Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while
he opened to us the scriptures?

as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort
and to convince the gainsayers.

which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I

Dan 2:30 But as for me, this secret
is not revealed to me for any wisdom
that I have more than any living, but for their
sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest
know the thoughts of thy heart.
Isa 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD
is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to
preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them
that are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and
the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
Luk 12:3 Therefore whatsoever ye have
spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken
in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.
I have been thinking about the sermonising. I think that is the problem...it is just that-sermonising - the lack of fire. There
are many ways to speak but instead of life being a spontaneous series of events
we tend to think inspiration comes once a week through one man. Preaching to
me is a man speaking with passion about a subject. I could probably preach
about gas fitting (my job) to you - not that you would find it very interesting
- but a person speaking with passion and under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit,
who can stop him! The very enthusiasm that thrills his soul in turn makes our
hearts burn. The thing is - no one is that passionate all of the time and
as Acts says "...they spoke the word as the spirit gave them utterance"
meaning there is a proper time and place determined by the Holy Spirit.
I do believe there is a one word sermon and sometimes just one word is enough
to set a heart on fire. But that fire comes through us telling of how God has
blessed us and telling it with conviction and boldness. We tell our experience
not another’s; as Jesus said "Go home to thy friends, and tell them how
great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee".
Mark 5:19
That is why I enjoy meeting in a home without rigid formality. The tongues of
fire come together to become a big blaze -every one encouraging and being encouraged.
Let
the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight,
O Lord, my strength and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14
